Kimberly Godwin to leave ABC News after serving 3 Years

In a recent announcement on May 5, 2024, ABC News’ president, Kimberly Godwin has said that she is leaving her position in the firm. She served in the organisation for 3 long years. With a final decision to resign, Kim has sent an email to the employees about her “considerable reflection”. Prior to ABC, Kim served at CBS News for over a decade and soon became the Executive Vice President in 2019.

Kim was the first black woman to take forward a broadcast news division. Having decided to leave the firm, she comes with a declaration of leaving broadcast journalism altogether. This has shaken the entire industry and made circles on the internet in past 24 hours.

She said, “Anyone who’s passionate about what we do knows there’s no other business like it, so this was not an easy or quick decision. I’m certain it’s the right one for me as I look to the future and prioritize what’s most important for me and my family.”

In this sensitive time for ABC News when the firm is facing competitive election with a chaotic news cycle, Kim’s decision might hamper the firm’s situation even more. The organisation is also facing an increasingly difficult economic landscape for broadcast news divisions throughout the industry.
