Global Women’s Forum in Dubai (GWFD) organised a session entitled as ‘Women in Sustainability: Leadership for Emerging Economies’. During the discussion the economic potential of gender parity has been highlighted. It has been discussed that achieving gender equality has the potential to enhance global GDP by $21 trillion.
Since women’s empowerment is beneficial for businesses, females occupy 50% of the population as well as consumer base which makes their involvement really crucial for addressing half of the market across the globe. In addition, Secretary General of the CSO Network Dr. Yasar Jarrar has emphasised the need for collective efforts towards speeding up gender equality.
ADNOC's Climate Change Division Vice President Samar Al Hameedi said, “Showcase more successful women leaders in sustainability to serve as role models. Ensure that workplaces and infrastructure are prepared to receive and support women, especially in traditionally male-dominated industries.”
Moreover, Dr. Yasar also stated that it would take around 105 years in total for achieving equality at a current pace. Pointing out on disparities, he also stated about the policies as well as infrastructure between emerging and developed regions. He also noted that diverse boards perform better i.e., 20% as compared to non-diverse ones.
