By effectively educating more than 1,500 women in digital skills, the Young Moms Support Initiative, a renowned Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has achieved considerable progress towards the economic empowerment of women. Female entrepreneurs and prospective company owners received the training at no cost in an effort to increase business opportunities and ensure sustainable livelihoods.

The Young Moms Support Initiative's Executive Director, Dr. Vivian Sonny-Nsirim, shared the organization's steadfast dedication to assisting women and children for the advancement of society in an exclusive interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on August 7, 2023. The project was the driving force behind the establishment of the Young Moms Forum, a young women's online community with an amazing membership of over two million active members.

The programme, which took place from August 1 to August 4 through Zoom meetings and private WhatsApp groups, was designed to provide women the fundamental digital skills they need to leverage technology to broaden their business opportunities. Dr. Sonny-Nsirim emphasised the significance of include underrepresented groups in technology, emphasising the potential for creativity and gender equality that would result from their empowerment.

Techniques for Facebook page optimisation for business, advanced Google Drive and WhatsApp usage, and graphic design abilities were among the subjects addressed throughout the thorough course. Dr. Sonny-Nsirim emphasised the profound influence that even basic technical advancements, like Android phones, may have on generating web traffic and realising spectacular economic success.

The Executive Director advocated for considerable curricular change in the nation, pushing for the inclusion of science and technology education beginning in primary grades. She thinks that this will encourage children, particularly females, to think critically and will better prepare them for the rapidly changing digital world. Dr. Sonny-Nsirim expressed worry about how technology is being abused and turned into a weapon, particularly against women and girls. This gave the NGO the idea to promote digital solutions for gender-based violence prevention, healthcare, and agriculture.

The empowerment of rural women has been one of the initiative's major successes. These ladies are now able to promote their goods internationally without leaving the convenience of their rural surroundings thanks to the digital skills that were taught to them. Social networking sites have developed into effective tools for growing their clientele and promoting their enterprises.

The respected traditional figures known as "Ugochinyere I of Igboland" and "Madubia of Uke Kingdom," including Dr. Sonny-Nsirim, emphasised the transformational potential of ICT literacy for women and girls. She thinks that developing their digital abilities will help them think more quickly and enable them to support their families by generating cash.

The Young Moms Support Initiative's commitment to empowering women via digital literacy is an encouraging step in the direction of a society where everyone has access to opportunity. The organisation is well-positioned to have a long-lasting effect on the lives of numerous women and the communities in which they reside as it broadens its influence.
